Found this little gem on tumblr, thought it was hilarious but also very true when it comes to corporations and globalisation. Many people around the globe succumb to this way of fashion through labels and status. As big corporations persuade customers to buy their shirts with their logos and get free advertising out of it. Not saying that it is all bad as many people buy them for sentimental value or purely for the appearance and popularity.

I agree with this piece of satire. It is comical so the average viewer with laugh at it rather than taking it seriously. It has become second nature to go for branded merchandise to promote your likes. America is traditionally the main target for this but we are all victims. Brand loyalty is big business, once a brand sucks you in with a viral advert it is almost a guarantee you will buy them more. Cadburys is the "expert" at this.
ReplyDeleteI agree brand loyalty has become a second nature and fashion as a whole has become overly globalised and certain brands have certain stigmas attached for example Superdry and Jack Wills all have the stereotype to being for wealthy people and the likes of Primark being for the lower class which should not be the case, this could also cause bullying within schools and that is why the uniform and strict footwear and coats have been implemented to prevent exposing children to segregation of classes.
ReplyDeleteI had never thought about clothing in this way before, but most items sport a logo of some sort which in effect means that you are paying them to advertise their own company. People do buy into brands too, and whatever is 'in fashion' at the time, which means that whichever brands are most popular will be getting huge amounts of money all because one (maybe famous) person decided to wear it one time. Brands do tend to come in and out of fashion very quickly too and what one year was popular, the next most wouldn't be seen wearing!
