"The (9/11) attacks showed that, for all its accomplishments, globalisation makes an awful form of violence accessible to hopeless fanatics"
(Stanley Hoffmann, 2002)
When two passenger planes crashed into the World Trade Centre and another flew into the Pentagon building in Washington on 11th September 2001 the word 'globalisation' quickly became buzzword in nearly every expert commentary on the background for the attacks. While globalisation had long been touted as mostly a force for good, at least for the Western world, the horrifying onslaught of death and destruction in the world's greatest metropolis of power and capital highlighted the 'dark side of globalisation'.
B. Lia (2007) Globalisation and the Future of Terrorism: Patterns and Predictions, Routledge, page 1
I agree with the notion of 'globalisation' having a dark side as everything does however on a massive scale like this the idea of blame is quickly thrown into play, the globalisation of Travel and Tourism was massively hit on 9/11 and has created the drastic changes in the ease of accessing countries however I don't think just because you come from a certain country does not mean you are a threat and due to this a lot of people have been marked with this stigma of terrorism. With the attacks on London 7/7 and Boston bombings 2013 have started to reduce the stigma as the people involved where from the country in which was attacked and did not correspond with the racial stigma, to the attacks, which has been created.
Globalization, as with everything there is a dark side. Terrorism is now able to operate on a global scale as they are putting up propaganda videos online, that's the reason we know ISIS have done the horrible things that they do. These things we would never of seen 100 years ago due to lack of technology. It is personally saddening tech that has done so much good is now being used to display evil acts of terror. However, dare I say it too that globalized scale of the media that it is leading to scare mongering. The way that we are told about these things isn't just that it happened but implies it could happen to you.
